Canada beats the USA in the bronze medal showdown

Canada's women secured Olympic bronze in curling in a prestigious duel with the USA.

The Canadian women, who entered the tournament as top favorites, defeated their neighbors 10-7 on Saturday in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The US women missed out on their first Olympic medal. For Canada's world champions, it was their first medal since their last title win in Sochi in 2014. The silver medalists from Switzerland and Sweden will play for gold on Sunday (11:05 a.m.).

The Swiss women are aiming for their first Olympic gold. They have won the World Championship title ten times, but never the Olympic crown. The Swedes are the record Olympic champions with three titles. Skip Anna Hasselborg already has one Olympic gold medal to her name – from Pyeongchang in 2018. In the preliminary round, Sweden defeated Switzerland 6-4 and then eliminated gold medal favorites Canada 6-3 in the semifinals.
