South Tyrolean Italian champions as far as the eye can see

Traditionally, the Italian Championships in various winter sports disciplines take place shortly before the end of the season. Last week, it was the turn of the alpine ski technicians, alpine snowboarders, and freeskiers. Several local athletes were crowned the new national champions. Here's the usual winter sports overview.

Anna Trocker secured the first Italian championship title of the week on Tuesday. The skier from Völs, currently one of the top performers in the entire ski scene, crowned her outstanding season with a victory in the giant slalom. In Sestriere, she completed the two runs in 2:06.01 minutes, relegating Ilaria Ghisalberti and Elisa Platino from Merano to second and third place, respectively. Trocker also won the titles in the "Giovani" and "Aspiranti" age groups. In the men's giant slalom the following day, two South Tyroleans, Alex Vinatzer from Val Gardena (second place) and Hannes Zingerle from Val Badia (third place), finished behind Giovanni Borsotti. In the "Giovani" category, regional team athlete David Castlunger (Stern) also shone, securing second place.

The national slalom championships concluded the event in Sestriere. Two South Tyroleans claimed the titles: Anna Trocker once again confirmed her outstanding form in the women's competition, securing the double. Alex Vinatzer crowned himself the new Italian champion in his signature discipline in the men's event. Celina Haller (Schenna), also from South Tyrol, finished third in the "Assoluti" category. The top three in the "Aspiranti" age group were all South Tyrolean: Trocker won ahead of Victoria Klotz from Bolzano, who was fastest in the second run, and Arianna Putzer from Val Gardena. In the men's "Giovani" category, David Castlunger (Stern), a member of the regional team, again finished second behind Peter Corbellini. Just one day later, Castlunger achieved another top result at the FIS slalom in Valmalenco, winning ahead of his national team colleague Lukas Sieder (Freienfeld).

Outstanding South Tyrolean snowboarders in Carezza

The Italian Alpine Snowboard Championships, on the other hand, were held in South Tyrol. On the "Pra di Tori," the World Cup slope of the Carezza Dolomites ski resort, thrilling parallel competitions took place. And the South Tyroleans shone in every aspect of the event, starting with the parallel giant slalom, which opened the competitions on Tuesday.

In the men's general category, the podium was dominated by South Tyrolean athletes: Roland Fischnaller (Villnöß), Tommy Rabanser (Gröden), and Aaron March (Völs). Jasmin Coratti (Langtaufers), also from South Tyrol, took the women's title. Rabanser won the men's U21 category, ahead of Manuel Haller (Burgstall) and regional team athlete Kevin Crazzolara (Stern). Giorgia Carnevali won the women's U21 title, ahead of regional team members Emma Dorfmann (Brixen) and Sofia Federspieler (Villnöß). In the U18 category, Tobias Mutschlechner (St. Vigil), another South Tyrolean, emerged victorious, finishing ahead of Maris Baumgartner (Villanders) and Lorenzo Bossa (ASV Burgstall). In the U18 women's category, Natalia Laneve (Snowboard Gherdëina) took the victory, as did Toni Gruber (ASV Burgstall) in the U15 category, who prevailed over Matteo Bogliolo (ASV Burgstall). Camilla Ciocca (ASV Villnöß) won the U13 women's category, ahead of her teammate Nina Holzknecht (ASV Villnöß).

On Wednesday, the parallel slalom continued with top results for South Tyrolean skiers. Jasmin Coratti secured the "double" in the women's competition, while her brother Edwin won the men's event ahead of March and Mike Santuari (Welschnofen). The U21 title went to Rabanser again, this time ahead of Crazzolara and Mutschlechner, who also won the U18 title ahead of Bossa and Francesco Savioli (ASV Welschnofen). In the women's U21 category, Dorfmann finished third, and in the women's U18 category, Laneve took second place. In the men's U15 category, two South Tyroleans, Bogliolo and Gruber, finished second and third respectively, while Lia Holzknecht took third place in the women's U15 category. Another South Tyrolean Italian champion emerged in the women's U13 category, where Nina Holzknecht took the title. Battocletti finished third in the men's U13 category.

South Tyroleans also shine in freeskiing in Madonna di Campiglio.
The freeskiers competing at the Italian Championships in Madonna di Campiglio also delivered outstanding performances. In the Ursus SnowPark, Maria Gasslitter (St. Ulrich) was crowned the new champion in the general category for both Slopestyle and Big Air, finishing ahead of Heidi Pescollderungg from Pfalzen in both events. In the men's "Assoluti" category, Max Von Aufschnaiter, who finished second twice, and Elia Baez Locher, who finished third twice, both from Bolzano, impressed.
