Originally, a total of 13 winter sports enthusiasts could be chosen - including the two South Tyroleans Evelin Lanthaler (natural track tobogganing) and Dominik Filehner (artistic track tobogganing). In contrast to previous years, this year there was only one athlete to choose from per sport. After the first voting phase, there were still three athletes to choose from. In the end, Bassino came out ahead of Lisa Vittozzi (biathlon) and Simone Deromedis (ski cross).
FISI received a total of over 90.000 votes. Bassino was honored on Sunday in Modena. For the second time after 2021, the 27-year-old is winter athlete of the year. The woman from Cuneo was crowned super-G world champion in Meribel in February. She was also on the podium seven times in the World Cup, including her giant slalom victory in Sestriere. On Saturday in Sölden, Bassino finished fifth at the start.
