In Dublin: NFL quarterback attacked and robbed

Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was attacked and robbed in Dublin before the NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings.

According to the Irish Independent, the 28-year-old was reportedly slightly injured in the attack in Dublin's Temple Bar district on Saturday night and had to be briefly treated in hospital. He was reportedly "assaulted and robbed."

"We are aware of the incident and are working with the NFL Security Department to gather additional information on the incident," said Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten. The franchise did not provide any further details.

Thompson gets off lightly

Irish broadcaster RTE reported that Dublin police are “aware of an incident involving a man in his twenties on Dame Street in the early hours of yesterday morning.”

Thompson, who has been on the injured list since September 10 due to a hamstring injury, was back with his team shortly afterward and saw the team win 24-21 against the Vikings. Thompson is playing his fourth season in the NFL and his first in Pittsburgh, following a stint with the Miami Dolphins from 2022 to 2024.

Sunday's Steelers-Vikings game was the first NFL regular-season game played in Ireland. It's the second of seven international games this season.
