Broncos win in Salzburg thanks to striker duo

Two games, two wins: The new season of the Alps Hockey League could not have started better for the Wipptal Broncos. On Wednesday, goalie Dominik Groh & Co. won against the Red Bull Juniors in Salzburg after overtime.

Due to the retirements of Fabian Hackhofer and Michael Messner as well as the injury of Jakob Rabanser, it seemed as if last year's semi-finalist would have to take a step back. After the first two games of the season, the situation looks very different: Johan Sjöquist's men had the upper hand both against Celje (5:2) and in Salzburg (3:2 after extra time).

The game in the city of Mozart began with great balance. Neither the Juniors, who had won 48-2 in extra time in Cortina 1 hours ago, nor the Wild Horses were able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. After the guests were unsuccessful in the first two power plays, Capannelli struck in the 27th minute with a power play. Adrian Gesson equalized just four and a half minutes later.

Again and again Sanche and Capannelli

The Broncos' first line was also at the center of the 2-1 in the final third. This time Capannelli provided the assist, and Philippe Sanche finished. But the South Tyroleans gave up their lead again just four minutes later: Paul Vinzens forced overtime. This same Vinzens had to sit in the penalty box 37 seconds after the start of overtime. Wipptal took full advantage of the power play in the person of Sanche. Capannelli again provided the assist.
