Continental Cup: Ritten hosts international club tournament

With the Italian championship title, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps not only won another trophy for their trophy collection last season, but also secured a ticket for the Continental Cup in the 2024/25 season. The blue-reds will enter the second round, which will be played from October 18 to 20 in the home Ritten Arena.

After the IIHF meeting in Bratislava at the end of last week, President Roberto Rampoldi and Managing Director Martin Klammer returned home with the good news: The application to host the second round in Klobenstein had been successfully accepted. This means that the Rittner Buam SkyAlps will be able to play in front of their home fans for a place in the third round of the international competition.

The Rittner Buam already know two of the three teams in their group. One is HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. The Slovenians are playing against the blue-reds in the Alps Hockey League, but have secured their place in the Continental Cup by winning the Slovenian championship. Their second opponent is Sokil Kyiv and comes from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. As national champions, they have also already qualified for the second round.

One team from the group of four has yet to be determined. In the first round of the Continental Cup, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade (Red Star Belgrade, Serbia), the Alps Hockey League newcomer KHL Sisak (Croatia), Liege Bulldogs (Belgium) and SC Irbis Skate (Bulgaria) will meet and play for a ticket to the second round on the Ritten.

That's how it's played

In the group of four, each team will play three games, once against each other. This means that each team will play one game per day from Friday, October 18th to Sunday, October 20th. The Ritten Arena is expecting an exciting tournament program, with the first-placed team securing its place in the third round of the Continental Cup.

"It's obviously a great opportunity for us. We had a great exchange with officials from the other teams in Bratislava. We're really pleased that our application was accepted," says Rampoldi. "The Continental Cup has already been held on the Ritten several times. It's a lot of work for us, but we're ready and looking forward to a successful ice hockey weekend!"
