HC Gröden relies on new leaders

The most important personnel decision has long been made. With Teppo Kivelä, the HCG extended the contract of coach, focusing on continuity. The Finn is considered to be obsessed with detail, works day and night on hockey, and is entering his second year. "Teppo lives hockey, he's a consummate professional," says Brugnoli. Even though last year's results weren't satisfactory, confidence remains high.

The HCG defense appears thin on paper, but it offers quality. Sacha Guimond comes with extensive experience. The 34-year-old Canadian played in Innsbruck, won titles in France, and appeared in the Champions Hockey League. He possesses composure, wit, and power-play strength. "Sacha is a leader; he will lead the defense," explains Brugnoli.

Carmine Buono, arguably the best defenseman in the Italian Hockey League, is coming to Selva. The Italian-Canadian has accumulated countless points in recent years. He is considered strong offensively, but also stable in his own zone. "Buono has shown everything in the IHL, now he wants to challenge for a higher league," emphasizes Brugnoli.

The final piece of the puzzle is Dimitri Wozowik. The Russian shone in Como and France. In the IHL, he was the top-scoring defenseman. He is a technically strong skater, thinks offensively, and loves taking risks. "We wanted him last year, and now we've secured his services," Brugnoli enthuses. Then there's Sebastiano Soracreppa, who returned from Switzerland, played defense at Ritten last season, and impressed with his strong skating. Ben Linder, a young local, is also expected to take the next step. "The market is thin at the back, but we've signed quality," says the sporting director.

Brady and Moncada are to lead the attack Up front, the HCG relies on a mix of returning players, talented players, and serious scorers. The biggest name is Adam Brady. The Canadian was captain in Hungary, led Ferencvarosi to the championship title, and scored a regular goal there. Brady brings physique, leadership qualities, and a dangerous shot. "Adam reads the game, he has vision, and he scores," praises Brugnoli. Brady has collected an impressive 104 points in 122 games in Hungary over the past two years. He is expected to fill the gap following the departure of Brad McGowan, who scored an incredible 260 points in 391 games for the "Furie" over the past six years.

Luke Moncada is a complete center. The Italian-Canadian scored points in the ICEHL for Asiago, made his debut for the Italian national team, and brings physical strength. "Luke can do everything; he's valuable in both directions," explains Brugnoli. His four years in the ICEHL are a testament to his quality, especially in defending. Another returning player is Matteo Luisetti. The speedy winger most recently played in Switzerland, possesses a goal-scoring threat and grit. Luca Biondi also returns from injury. "Luisetti knows us, he fits perfectly into the team. Biondi deserves a second chance," assures Brugnoli. A new face is Dylan Ghiglione. The 25-year-old impressed in Varese, scoring 46 points in 42 games. He is considered hardworking, clever, and a goal-scoring threat. "Dylan also goes where it hurts," emphasizes Brugnoli.

The locals remain equally important. Captain Simon Pitschieler extended his contract and leads the team. Hannes Kasslatter, Samuel Moroder, and Davide Schiavone bring pace, experience, and energy. Stephan and Tommy Deluca complete the core. "Our Italians are fast, aggressive, and combative," says Brugnoli. Igor Bogdanow, a 19-year-old talent, is also coming to Val Gardena. The Russian, who grew up in South Tyrol, impressed in his trial, showing courage and passion. "He immediately impressed us," reports Brugnoli.

Paul Hofer is set between the posts The HCG is committed to continuity in goal. Paul Hofer remains the number one. The experienced left-handed catcher has excelled in recent years, posting save percentages of over 90 percent. Behind him are Matthias Rindone and the 17-year-old Arik Plancker. Both impressed in the preseason games. "Hofer has the advantage of experience, but the young guys are hungry," emphasizes Brugnoli.

The sports director is optimistic: "With this squad, a lot is possible. It's certainly the strongest team in recent years." The goal is clear: the AlpsHL playoffs and a leading role in the IHL Serie A. But Brugnoli also warns: "The AlpsHL will be tight. Zell is stronger, Ritten better. We have to give it our all from the start."

Val Gardena is entering the season with momentum, ambition, and a clear plan. New guest players Guimond, Buono, Wozowik, Brady, and Moncada are expected to get the "Furie" back on track. To achieve this, the management is relying on returning players, "young guns," and a solid foundation of locals. Brugnoli seems convinced. "We've brought in character, we've brought in quality. Now it's up to us to build a unit out of that." The Ladins want to have a say – in the AlpsHL, in the IHL Serie A, and perhaps even in the fight for the big goals.
