Secret revealed: Capannelli leaves Europe

In recent weeks and months, many rumors have surrounded Adam Capannelli's future. Now, the future of the former Wipptal Broncos star has been clarified.

After Adam Capannelli in an interview with SportNews When he announced his departure from the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL), a European commitment seemed the most plausible alternative—especially since the Italian-Canadian wanted to gain some extra points for the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina. However, as announced Wednesday evening, the 26-year-old is taking a different path.

Capannelli has signed a contract with the Iowa Heartlanders, who play in the North American East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Founded in 2021, the Heartlanders are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild. "Adam is a strong signing for us and another player who knows how to score goals," emphasized Iowa Head Coach and Athletic Director Chuck Weber.

New overseas launch

Capannelli had speculated about a move to the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL) this summer, but both HC Bozen and HC Pustertal turned him down. This is the striker's first professional experience outside of Italy, as he transferred directly from the Canadian University League to Varese in 2021.
