Val Gardena awakens the dead – Broncos beat Gamsstädter

Cortina has lost eight games across all competitions. On Saturday evening, HC Gherdëina ended this streak. The Furie suffered a heavy defeat against Cortina, just as the Unterland Cavaliers did against Bregenzerwald.

Six losses in the Alps Hockey League, two more at the IHL's "Milano Finals" in Milan. Cortina had recently been little more than cannon fodder. On Saturday, Val Gardena turned the tables and let Cortina devour them for dinner, like a can of spinach in Popeye's game – the final score was 1-5.

Finnish player Oskari Kalajanniska and Chad Pietroniro each scored two goals between the 20th and 43rd minutes, after HCG had held the score to a 1-1 tie almost until the end of the first period. Playing before a crowd of only around 250 spectators, Gröden was particularly outmatched at even strength. While they successfully converted all of their penalties, Cortina conceded five goals at even strength. However, Gröden failed to capitalize on Cortina's ten penalty minutes, and even their superior shot count (44-29 in favor of HCG) did little to help.

Home win in Sterzing – Unterland team suffers defeat in Vorarlberg

While bottom-of-the-table Unterland had no answer against Bregenzerwald (1:6), the Wipptal Broncos celebrated a home victory. Just as Austria's downhill skiers had nothing to cheer about in Saturday's Hahnenkamm downhill race, the ice hockey players from Kitzbühel also suffered a defeat. Luciano Zandegiacomo's goal (44th minute) secured the 3:2 home win in Sterzing.

Unterland goalkeeper Tizian Giovannelli was under constant fire against Bregenzerwald.
