The blue-reds also left the ice victorious on Sunday evening: They beat league newcomers and the surprise of the season, KHL Sisak from Croatia, 500:5 in front of almost 2 spectators. Ritten is now only one point behind league leader Zell am See, but has played one player less.
The fast, racy first third began just as the Rittner Buam liked it. After a few missed chances, Robert Öhler was there to save a long-range shot from Hjorth, deflecting it perfectly with his stick to make it 1-0 (5.22). In the 7th minute, backup goalie Florian Plattner stood out - he was allowed to play from the start instead of Colin Furlong, when he made a strong save against Dostalek with his pads. But he was powerless at 1-1, Bronte deflected Briere's shot unstoppably (8.01). Sisak then took the lead on the power play: a shot from Briere flew right into the far corner (16.01). The Buam responded with a power play goal of their own that was very similar to the home team's first, only this time it was Cuglietta who deflected Hjorth's shot into the goal (18.48).
Ritten reverses Sisak's lead
The middle third continued with a high pace of play and both teams initially missed good chances. For Sisak, Bruno Idzan was stopped by Plattner's pad (23rd minute), for the Buam it was Lobis (25th minute), Prast (26th minute) and Spinell (29th minute), all of whom were stopped by the visiting goalie Rosandic. The Croatian goalkeeper was also on hand against Soracreppa in the power play when he threw his shoulder in at the last moment (31st minute) and a little later against Szypula and when Lobis took a follow-up shot (33rd minute). The momentum was now on the Rittner side, however, and in the next power play they took the lead. Hjorth played to Insam, who fired a powerful slapshot into the near corner (34.37). The Rittner Buam wanted to seal the deal in the final third and scored two beautiful goals. First, Spinell made it 4:2 in the finest skier style, when he left the Sisak opponents standing like slalom gates and also rounded Rosandic so that he only had to push the ball in (44.14). And then Hopponen fired a long-range shot under the crossbar (47.09). This paved the way to victory, even though Sisak never gave up and continued to pose some problems for the Rittner Buam. In the power play, the referees also awarded the Croatians a goal, but after video viewing it was clear that Idzan's shot had only hit the post and the goal was disallowed (50.). There were no more goals in the entertaining match, however, and the Rittner Buam won 5:2.
