The Ritten/Ritten/Ritten SkyAlps have announced their first new signing. Angelo Miceli, an Italian-Canadian player well-known in South Tyrol, is joining the blue-and-red team. The 32-year-old recently spent seven years playing for HCB Südtirol Alperia in the ICE Hockey League.
Angelo Miceli was born on March 1, 1992, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In his hockey-mad homeland, he also gained his first experience with the world's fastest team sport. Miceli spent several years with the Victoriaville Tigres in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), scoring points at an incredible rate, which earned him his first appearances in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the St. John's IceCaps in the 2015/16 season. After playing in the AHL and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), both in Canada and the USA, Miceli crossed the Atlantic in November 2017 to Italy, the homeland of his grandparents.
Now a true South Tyrolean
Back then, he joined HCB Südtirol Alperia as a young, agile forward with an Italian passport. In the provincial capital, Miceli quickly developed into a key player and fan favorite. Over 400 games, nearly 250 points, and the ICE Hockey League title in the 2022/23 season as the crowning achievement: Miceli felt completely at home in Bolzano. He also found happiness in South Tyrol on a personal level; he has been married to a woman from Kaltern for two years and they have already started a family. After leaving Bolzano at the end of the 2023/24 season, he had short stints with the Sheffield Steelers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League, with HC Asiago (then still in the ICE Hockey League), and most recently with Sønderjyske in the Danish first division.Angelo Miceli during his adventure in Sheffield. © Sheffield Steelers/Woolley
Miceli is now returning to South Tyrol, specifically to the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. Sports directors Dan Tudin and Alexander Eisath have great confidence in their first new signing: "Angelo is a well-known name in Italian ice hockey. With his international experience, offensive skills, and leadership qualities, he brings a lot of creativity and character to our team."
