HC Meran has lured a young Canadian from Montreal to the spa town.

Meran fishes in Montreal and catches a young Italian

HC Meran has signed a young Italian-Canadian player for the upcoming season. Although he has played exclusively in youth hockey so far, he has big plans with the Eagles.

“I can hardly wait to get on the ice in Merano. We’re building something special here,” Massimo Tirone seems to be bursting with anticipation. The 19-year-old Canadian with Italian roots is the youngest new addition to HCM in the Alps Hockey League and also their last import player.

Tirone is a relatively unknown quantity so far. He has only played for Montreal youth teams. Most recently, he played for the Montreal Rangers in the QJHL, a strong junior league, where he impressed. In 100 games, he amassed an impressive 130 points. Last season, he was the league's third-highest scorer with 77 points. Tirone will occupy an under-22 roster spot at HCM.
