After three years: Furlong leaves Ritten

When Colin Furlong was introduced as a new signing for the Ritten Buam in 2023, his talent was already well-known. The Italian-Canadian was among the best goalies in South Tyrolean ice hockey. For three years, he also delivered outstanding performances in Ritten. Now, this chapter comes to a close.

Colin Furlong will leave the Rittner Buam. The Canadian-born player, who has held an Italian passport for a year, played for three seasons on the Ritten and consistently impressed year after year with outstanding saves and high save percentages that were always among the best in the Alps Hockey League.

With these performances, he also led the Ritten Buam to a double in his first season: First, they won the Italian championship in January 2024, followed by the title in the Alps Hockey League in April. For Furlong, these were his first titles in European ice hockey, after initially playing for HC Pustertal and then HC Gherdëina, where he was a competitor of the Ritten Buam, following his move across the Atlantic.

Praise from the bosses

After 149 games, an average save percentage of nearly 93 percent, and 13 shutouts, Colin Furlong's time with the Rittner Buam has come to an end. The goalie, who was recently called up to the Italian national team for the first time, will be missed in Ritten, as sporting directors Dan Tudin and Alexander Eisath emphasize: "Since joining us, Colin Furlong has consistently been one of the best goaltenders in the AlpsHL. His strong and consistent performances were instrumental in winning the Italian championship and the Alps Hockey League title in the 2023/24 season."

"Thank you all for this wonderful time"

Furlong also bids farewell to Ritten with fond memories. "I would like to thank everyone who made these three years on Ritten so wonderful for me and my family. I will never forget the three titles we won together and hope that our paths will cross again," said the Italian-Canadian.
