AlpsHL ice hockey will no longer be played in the Gianmario Scola ice stadium in Alba di Canazei.

Now it's official: Fassa is leaving the Alps Hockey League

What has been a rumor for a few hours is now official: HC Fassa will be joining the Alps Hockey League with immediate effect. The people of Trentino announced this in a press release.

After the EHC Lustenau (SportNews effect berichtet), another club announced its withdrawal from the cross-border Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL). This time it's HC Fassa, a club from Italy.

“The policy that has always characterized our club is the development of young athletes from their first steps through to the first team. The AlpsHL, a cross-border tournament played by our senior team since its founding in 2016 with the intention of developing and promoting the sport of hockey from an early age, has lost its main meaning, not only in our opinion." This is how the press release begins, which was published by HC Fassa on Friday evening.

Costs too high

In addition to the development of the youth players, another main reason is the costs that the club has to incur. Lustenau had already given this reason, and the hockey club from Trentino is of the same opinion. “An exponential increase in the costs of supporting first team sporting activities, such as registration, guarantees, referees, equipment, wages and inherent costs, has now made the financial viability of the tournament prohibitive for a small club with a limited budget such as ours have made."

“The AlpsHL did not bring the hoped-for benefits or attractiveness,” says HC Fassa in a nutshell. As with other clubs, the spectator stands in the Scola, the club's stadium, were unfortunately not always well filled, which meant that there was not much income from home games.

“Our passion doesn’t change”

“In the near future, the board will contact the domestic athletes to assess their intention to participate in another championship that can bring more joy and fun to the fans, staff, players and also the club itself,” said the press release further.

But there is one thing the board of HC Fassa would like to have said: “Our enthusiasm and passion do not change, but now it is as important as ever that all parts of the machine work towards the same goal. We want to guarantee this valley a first team for a long time, and we cannot be the only ones!” This was the final appeal to the entire Fassa Valley.
