Fabian Hackhofer is looking forward to the start of the playoffs on Tuesday.

Playoff start in the AlpsHL: “I think it’s going to be a long series”

In the ICE Hockey League the “5. Season” has already begun, and on Tuesday the little brother will follow suit. 4 South Tyrolean teams are in the playoff quarter-finals of the Alps Hockey League. One of them is the Wipptal Broncos.

Fabian Hackhofer joins the conversation SportNews don't beat around the bush for long. The captain of the Wild Horses says: “It will definitely be an exciting duel and I think it will be a long series.” What is meant is the quarter-final duel with the Zeller Eisbären. Salzburg are a tough team, but at the same time they are also an attractive playoff opponent.

This is not least because the hall in Zell am See is always full. “We always enjoy playing there, even during the season,” says Hackhofer. The Eisbären fans will step up their game again in the playoffs. For the people of Wipptal, this means more motivation: “A bombastic atmosphere can be intimidating, but it can also motivate. We enjoy playing in Zell am See, so it's more of an incentive for us. Personally, I would rather play in front of a full house than in front of a few fans.” Hackhofer adds mischievously: “Besides, every playoff game has a few excitements.”

The hall in Zell am See will shake in the playoffs. Fabian Hackhofer likes this.

In terms of sport, Zell am See is a difficult opponent, especially since the Austrians have received reinforcements (including from the Vienna Capitals) before the playoffs. “They played a strong first round and gave up a bit in the Master Round. The same applies to us,” said Hackhofer. But he doesn't want to overestimate the performance in the Master Round because: "The playoffs are a new chapter and we're happy that we got an interesting opponent." The Broncos have a small advantage. They have the home advantage in the “best of seven” series. Hackhofer is also counting on it: “I hope that’s the deciding factor.”
