Ritten loses again in the penalty shootout

After their second duel with KHL Sisak this weekend, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps had to settle for just one point on Sunday. Just like on Saturday, Dave MacQueen's team lost in the penalty shootout – and again the score was 4:5 for the South Tyrolean club.

Less than 24 hours after their first penalty shootout loss, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps had the chance to take revenge against Sisak. And the Blue-Reds showed from the start that they intended to return home with a full haul of points, even if things turned out differently in the end. Jake Crespi was particularly committed, setting up Alderson's opening goal with a one-timer on the power play (3:22), then two minutes later made it 2-0 with a superb solo effort, and after just under a quarter of an hour, even scored the 3-0 lead after a quick attack (14:18). The Blue-Reds went into the locker room with this score.

Sisak didn't give up after the first 20 minutes, however, and reduced the deficit to 1:3 shortly after the restart. Dumcius won the puck behind Furlong's net and quickly passed it to Canic, who danced around Ritten's goalie with a hook and slotted it home (22:48). Things were about to get even better for the hosts. When Madsen went to the penalty box, it took just 15 seconds for Idzan to score in the near post (24:24). Ritten's comfortable lead had thus shrunk to one goal in less than two minutes. Sisak then went into a frenzy and equalized in the 29th minute after a turnover and Panasenko's shot into the far post. This restored the stalemate midway through the second period. But the open exchange of blows wasn't over yet. After several great chances on both sides, the Ritten Buam SkyAlps took the lead again. Welychka scored on the power play 25 seconds before the second intermission.

In the final period, Sisak pushed for an equalizer. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps had opportunities to land small pinpricks on counterattacks, but it was the hosts who hit the mark. With seven minutes left in the game, Panasenko marched the entire length of the ice alone without being significantly disrupted, then set up Larionovs, who beat Furlong with a backhand shot (52:37). The score remained the same and, just like on Saturday evening, the game went into overtime. After less than a minute, Crespi received a penalty, but the South Tyroleans survived the shorthanded situation unscathed. The winner of the game ultimately had to be determined in a shootout. It was Dumcius who scored the decisive penalty for Sisak. This means that the Rittner Buam SkyAlps return from Croatia with two out of a possible six points after their two duels against KHL Sisak.
