Ritten's exceptional talent is the MVP

Ethan Szypula has been voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2024/25 season by the Alps Hockey League’s trade journalists.

The 28-year-old center of the Rittner Buam SkyAlps shone this season with an outstanding 103 points (27 goals | 76 assists) and thus made history: The Canadian was the first player ever to break the 100-point mark in a season.

For Ethan Szypula, this was his second season in the Alps Hockey League with the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. After scoring an impressive 67 points last year, the center surpassed all previous records this time. The previous record was 89 points – set by Matt Wilkins in the 2019/20 season for HC Gröden.

To culminate his outstanding performances, Szypula was named the season's most valuable player by ice hockey journalists. He remained pointless in only seven of his 54 games. His longest scoring streak lasted 17 games – from the start of the season until December 3rd. He twice scored five points in a game: in the 9-5 home win against Sterzing on October 5th and in the 6-0 victory against Celje on February 4th. The 28-year-old added four points to his list of goals in six other games.

Max Zimmermann of the Zeller Eisbären received the second-most votes. The goalie of the first-time finalist is clearly at the top of the save percentage statistics with a save percentage of 93,7%. The 25-year-old Vienna native has already recorded one shutout in six games. Third place goes to Adam Capannelli of the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, the second-best scorer of the current season (81 points). With 34 goals, the 25-year-old Canadian is also the top scorer of the current campaign.
