Heavy blow: Unterland's leading player injured

The Unterland Cavaliers will have to do without a key player due to injury at the start of the season in the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL).

At the last Friendly match at EC Peiting Head coach Vesa Petäjä was missing, among others, Alex Egger. Now it's clear why the 22-year-old didn't play: he was injured.

As the Cavaliers announced on Tuesday evening, Egger suffered an upper-body injury in the pre-season friendly against Rittner Buam on September 4th. The injury appears to be serious, as the club did not specify an exact recovery time. "He will be out of action for an indefinite period," the statement read.

A serious failure

Despite his young age, Egger is one of the leading players on the Cavs roster. He has already played 176 games in his career, accumulating 63 points. He demonstrated early form in the preseason games – including scoring twice in the 3-2 victory against the Wipptal Broncos. Now his teammates will have to manage without the right-handed shooter for the time being.
