Sterzing's strikers: One stays, one leaves

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan extended the contract of one of their key players on Friday evening. However, another forward left the club for a league rival.

As HC Meran has announced, Franco Sproviero from Sterzing to the spa town. The Canadian forward with Italian roots will be hunting for goals for the Eagles. Born in Sarnia (ON), the 1,75 m tall and 77 kg forward began his career in the Canadian junior leagues and amassed 149 points in the OHL, one of the best junior leagues in the world.

Sproviero then moved to USports, Canada's top university league, where he was immediately named "Rookie of the Year." Playing for the University of Western Ontario, the left-handed shooter scored a total of 114 points in 105 games, was his team's top scorer every year, and was selected to the All-Star team three times.

Last season, he moved to the Alps Hockey League and impressed with the Broncos, racking up 51 points and ranking among the league's top scorers. Now, the intelligent and clinical 27-year-old will showcase his skills in the black and white jersey. "I'm looking forward to the season with Merano and competing for the championship," said Sproviero.

Conci extends with the Broncos

At the same time, the Broncos announced a contract extension: The Wild Horses can also count on the services of [player's name] next season. Davide Conci count. The 29-year-old striker has extended his contract and will continue to wear the Wild Horses jersey.

Conci has become one of the Broncos' key offensive players. The native of Trentino joined Sterzing for the 2022/23 season and impressed from the start with his scoring threat and work ethic. In his first season, he tallied 36 points in 42 games, including 18 goals and 18 assists. The 2023/24 season was even more impressive: In 51 games, Conci was involved in 55 goals. He particularly showcased his talent in the playoffs, contributing 11 goals and 8 assists in just 11 games.

After a year in the ICE Hockey League with HC Pustertal, Conci returned to the Broncos and seamlessly continued his strong performances. He has already amassed well over 100 points in his Broncos career.
