The Unterland Cavaliers have lost eight of their last nine games, most recently four defeats in a row. Almost three weeks after their last victory, the Cavaliers finally returned to winning ways on Saturday. The Knights celebrated a 5:2 home victory against league newcomer Sisak.
More than 300 spectators saw a strong Unterland team in the Würth Arena on Saturday. The first goal of the match was scored by the guests from Croatia, Vito Izdan netting after just over six minutes. Not much happened in the first period, but the home team quickly equalized in the middle period. Thomas Pisetta served Nicolo Remolato, who scored a perfect goal to make it 1:1 (24th minute). After Kristians Samitis had put the Knights in the lead a short time later (31st minute), KHL Sisak equalized in the second period: Tyrone Bronte beat Unterland's backup goalie Laurin Foppa in a power play (36th minute).
The game, which had been balanced up to that point, tipped in the Cavaliers' favor in the last period. One of the reasons for this was that the Croatians had only traveled with 13 field players; after 40 minutes of play, their legs were tired and their strength was waning. The Cavs took full advantage of this and took a 3-2 lead shortly after the restart with a goal from Gabriel Galassiti (43rd minute). Finally, Samitis again increased the score with a power play (55th minute) and Alex Egger with an empty-net goal (60th minute).
Double home game for South Tyrolean teams tomorrow
Curious: The Unterland Cavaliers and KHL Sisak will meet again in the Würth Arena tomorrow. The reason? An away game in Croatia that was originally planned for December 7, 2024 was postponed and will now be rescheduled - but in Neumarkt. HC Gröden will also be in action on Sunday: They will host Jesenice.Alps Hockey League, Saturday's games
