In front of 3.000 fans: Zeller Eisbären make history

No Austrian club has ever won the Alps Hockey League. That changed on Tuesday evening, as the Zeller Eisbären decisively defeated Jesenice in the final.

On various international ice hockey platforms, the Alps Hockey League is listed as Austria's second division – yet never in the league's history (nine seasons already) has there been an Austrian champion. Since Tuesday evening, this fact can be put aside, as the Zeller Eisbären won Game 2 against Jesenice 9-5, thus crowning themselves the Alps champions.

In Zell am See, the home team left no doubt from the start as to who would leave the ice as the winner. Salzburg were already two goals ahead at the first intermission, adding two more goals in the middle period. Jesenice managed to cut the deficit through Nejc Brus, but Daniel Ban responded promptly, sealing the 1-5 victory, which ultimately earned the Eisbären the first Alps title in club history.
