Bolzano wins in Asiago, Pustertal at home against Valpellice

At the Odegar Stadium in Asiago today, the hosts had to do without the injured Dave Borrelli and Matteo Tessari in front of 1700 spectators. Both were injured on Tuesday in Bolzano. However, defender Christian Borgatello was missing from the HCB. Coach Adolf Insam also left Nick Mazzolini in the stands as a surplus foreigner and instead used Rhett Gordon in the second attack block with Giulio Scandella and Marco Insam.

Asiago got off to a better start, but missed two good chances with John Vigilante and Adam Henrich. Bozen then took the lead: Marco Insam took advantage of a defensive mistake by Benysek and outwitted Bellissimo with a shot from a tight angle. A minute later, Nicolas Plastino failed to hit the crossbar. In the 9.53 minute the White-Reds increased their lead to 2-0. Matt De Marchi was in the penalty box and Colton Fretter used the advantage to score his 25th goal of the season. Four minutes later the bell rang again in Bellissimo's box. “Unlucky guy” Benysek unfortunately directed a shot from Christian Walcher into his own goal to make it 3-0 for the HCB. Both teams went into the break with this result. The middle third began with Bolzano's fourth goal, scored by Samuli Suhonen. In the 23.30 minute Scandella hit the crossbar, just a minute later Danny Irmen missed alone in front of Bellissimo. In the 26.47 minute, Asiago reduced the deficit with Layne Ulmer. The pass came from Ralph Intranuovo, who was unable to take advantage of a great chance to make it 2-4 five minutes later. Ulmer scored the home team's second goal shortly before the break. With the advantage (Suhonen was in the penalty box), he celebrated his second goal of the evening and made the encounter exciting again. In the final third, Asiago threw everything forward, but Matt Zaba saved his goal several times. Ten minutes before the end of the game, Adam Henrich had to go into the cooler. Rosario Ruggeri made it 5-2, his fourth goal of the season. For Bolzano it was the fifth win in the eighth direct duel against Asiago.

Pustertal trembles its way to victory In the second play-off semi-final, HC Pustertal was only able to beat Valpellice with 3-2 goals in extra time. The home team was missing top scorer Rob Sirianni and Thomas Erlacher, Valpellice came to Bruneck without McDonough and Saviels. The first third ended goalless, in the middle third Max Oberrauch put the “Wolves” in the lead on a pass from Loyns. Shortly before the break, Joe Cullen increased the score to 2-0. The match seemed decided, but Valpellice didn't give up and equalized in just 112 seconds in the final third. First Luciano Aquino took advantage of a penalty against Bona to make it 1-2, then the 26-year-old scored the equalizer when he was outnumbered. For Luciano Aquino it was at least his 30th goal of the season. It remained 2-2 until the end of regular time. In extra time, Pustertal had the better end: Matt Kelly scored the much celebrated 68.35-3 winning goal in the 2 minute.

Now in the best-of-seven series, only one win separates HC Pustertal from reaching the final. Entry that Stefan Mair's team could make clear on Saturday in Torre Pellice.
