Cortina is the first finalist of the Skoda Italian Cup

Pustertal started the game with “returnee” Armin Helfer. The national defender had terminated his contract with Thurgau just a few hours earlier and was playing in a block with Amin Hofer. Fredrik Persson, however, had to go to the stands as a surplus foreigner. However, Cortina were missing defender Michele Zanatta and striker Ryan Dingle.

The Pusterers had their first opportunity after just 60 seconds, but Nate DiCasmirro was denied by goalkeeper Levasseur. In the 5th minute Andrea Moser had to go to the penalty box. In the power play, Christian Mair missed a huge chance to make it 1-0 in front of the Cortina goalkeeper. The old master's answer came just three minutes later when Luca Felicetti, also outnumbered (Di Casmirro was in the penalty box), hit the post. So after the first third it remained a goalless draw.

Both teams acted more cautiously in the middle third. In the 27th minute, Ryan Menei shot just wide of Strömberg's goal, and three minutes later David Bowman, outnumbered (Scandella in the penalty box), hit the crossbar for the second time. In the final phase of the middle third, after a foul by Jensen, Cortina was in the majority for four minutes, but Pustertal had the best chance to score with Giulio Scandella, who took advantage of a major defensive mistake by Rob Hennigar to counterattack, but then failed all by himself in front of JP Levasseur.

The final third began with a counter-attack from Jensen, which the outstanding Levasseur safely fended off. Then Pustertal also hit the post twice: in the 44th minute with Joe Jensen and nine minutes later with David Ling. When the former NHL player shot, the Pusterers also asked for video evidence. In the final minutes, Pustertal Cortina put pressure on their own defense and deservedly took the lead in the 58.20 minute. Ling played Max Oberrauch free, who scored to make it 1-0. The encounter seemed to have been decided, but Stefan Mair took Levasseur off the ice for a sixth skater and 35 seconds before the final siren, Ryan Menei made it 1-1, which was no longer thought possible, with a long-range shot.

In extra time, Olivier Magnan went crazy and was given a 2+10 minute penalty. Cortina took advantage of the majority and scored with Mark Isherwood in the 63.21 minute to make the final score 2-1.

In the evening at 20.30 p.m. the second Italian Cup finalist will be determined in the game between hosts HC Bozen and HC Alleghe Tegala Canadese.
