The duel HC Pustertal – HC Bozen in numbers

No less than eleven years ago, HC Pustertal and HC Bozen faced each other in the play-offs for the last time. Next Thursday the traditional South Tyrolean duel will be renewed. At stake is the championship title in the 78th Italian Serie A season.

The Wolves have been longing for their first championship win for some time. In the meantime, their hunger for success has been at least partially satisfied by the triumph in the 2010/11 Italian Cup and the 2011/12 Supercup. Meanwhile, HC Bozen's trophy collection was last refreshed with the 18th championship trophy at the end of the 2008/09 season. Since then, the record champion and his fans have been waiting for a title win.

The upcoming showdown is the seventh between the two clubs in the play-offs. In the six previous meetings, the HCB always had the upper hand:

86/87 season Quarterfinals: Bozen-Pustertal 2-0 (5-1; 7-4)

91/92 season Semi-final 5th/8th: Bozen-Pustertal 2-0 (9-5; 13-2)

1994/95 season Quarterfinals: Bozen-Pustertal 2-0 (8-1; 4-2)

1998/99 season Quarterfinals: Bozen-Pustertal 3-0 (6-2, 8-1; 11-4)

1999/00 season Quarterfinals: Bozen-Pustertal 3-0 (9-2; 6-5; 6-3)

2000/01 season Quarterfinals: Bozen-Pustertal 3-1 (4-1; 6-7; 4-1; 6-2)

In these six play-off pairings, the white-reds clearly lead the record with 15:1 wins. Bolzano is also ahead in terms of goal difference (112:41).

In total, the two opponents faced each other 162 times in Serie A. Bolzano retained the upper hand in 130 matches. The HCP has 24 successes to its name. So far, Bolzano has scored 1041 hits, while Bruneck has sunk the hard rubber disc into the HCB's goal 477 times.

The situation in the current season is completely different: after four of six games, the HCP cracks left the ice as winners - three of them in the Leitner Solar Arena at home (2-1, 2-1 nV, 6-1) and the last time in the final game of the Master Round in the Eiswelle (4-2). Meanwhile, Bolzano won two home games against Pustertal in the regular season (4-3 nP, 4-2).
