These are the EBEL opponents of HC Bozen – Part 1

EC Klagenfurter AC History: The KAC is considered the Real Madrid of Austrian ice hockey. The record champions from Carinthia clinched their 30th title last season, and the traditional club, founded 104 years ago, also won the Interliga in 2000.

Home venue: The people of Klagenfurt play their games in the venerable town hall. The centrally located ice stadium has a capacity of 5012 spectators and was filled with an average of 4030 fans during the regular season last season. The town hall is scheduled to be modernized from 2015.

Season 2012/13: After losing in the final twice in a row, the KAC-Cracks managed to end their drought in April of this year and bring their first championship title to Lake Wörthersee since 2009.

team squad : With Thomas Hundertpfund, the KAC had to let an important player move to Sweden, but the NHL-experienced Thomas Pöck is returning to his home club. The majority of the championship team has been confirmed.

EC Villacher SV

History: Klagenfurt's eternal rival is EC VSV from Villach, which has a population of 60.000. The Adler have been playing in the highest Austrian league since 1977 and have won six championship titles to date. The last one so far was in 2006.

Home venue: The VSV is based in the Villach town hall. This offers space for 4500 spectators and was 85% full in the most recent regular season.

Season 2012/13: Villach currently cannot hold a candle to its local rivals from the Carinthian state capital. Last season, coach Hanno Järvenpää's team reached the quarterfinals.

Team squad: With Gerhard Unterluggauer, VSV has the Austrian record national player in its ranks. The 36-year-old captain and former Cortina striker Curtis Fraser are two of the few veterans in the young squad.

EC Graz 99ers History : The Moser Medical Graz 99ers are the successor club to the traditional EHC Graz, which had to stop playing in 1999 for financial reasons. The Styrian team's greatest success so far was reaching the semi-finals in 2004.

home venue : The Graz-Liebenau ice stadium is directly adjacent to the UPC-Arena football stadium and has been the venue for ice hockey games since 1963. Two stands offer space for 4050 spectators.

2012/13 season : After coming third in the regular round, the 99ers had to say goodbye to the competition in the quarter-finals against eventual champions Klagenfurt.

Team squad: Center Bob Wren left Graz after just one season, and former Ritten goalie Frederic Cloutier also did not receive a new contract. Ryan Kinasewich from Milan was hired for this purpose.

SAPA Fehèrvàr AV19

History: SAPA Fehèrvàr, also known as Alba Volàn Székesfehérvár, is a twelve-time Hungarian champion and has been participating in the EBEL since 2007.

Home venue: The Székesfehérvár ice rink was expanded to a capacity of 2002 spectators in 3500 and has since met modern standards. In the last regular season, an average of 3200 Fehèrvàr fans made the pilgrimage to the ice stadium.

Season 2012/13: Despite the great fan support, the Hungarians did not make it into the playoffs last season. So far, the EBEL has never made it past the quarter-finals.

Team squad: Goalkeeper Adam Munro left Székesfehérvár for Innsbruck. A replacement has not yet been found, but six transfer card players and several players from the Hungarian league were brought in.

These are the EBEL opponents of HC Bozen – Part 1

The 7/2012 season will begin in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League on September 13th. Also at the start is HC Bozen, who will have to deal with some real hits on their return to the international ice hockey stage. SportNews takes a closer look at the HCB's opponents in a three-part series.
