Bolzano signs a young defensive talent

HCB Südtirol Alperia continues to work diligently on its roster for the upcoming season. On Friday, the Foxes announced the signing of a promising South Tyrolean player.

Looking at HC Bern's transfer activity, a clear imbalance is evident. Currently, they have nine forwards but only one defenseman, Carmine Buono. Now, the Italian-Canadian will be joined by a young defensive player whose transfer had been in the works for some time: Noah Frick.

The 18-year-old progressed through all youth categories at HC Eppan and was a regular member of the U18 and U20 national teams for the past three seasons. He made his debut for the Pirates' senior team in 2023 at the age of 16. Following his strong performances in the Italian Hockey League (IHL), HC Meran took notice of Frick.

Now he wants to prove himself in the ICEHL.

The 1,87-meter-tall left-handed defenseman also proved his worth in the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL). He played 54 games for the Eagles (eleven points) and was a regular starter for the finalists. Now, Foxes roster builder Dieter Knoll has selected him in search of young, talented defensemen who could eventually become established players in the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL).

“It’s a great honor for me to wear the Bolzano jersey,” Frick explained. “I want to continue improving, learn from the more experienced players, and take every opportunity to grow. I felt very comfortable in Merano; last season was important and helped me develop as a player. The same goes for the World Junior Championships I was able to play in: it’s always important to compete internationally against the best players of your age group. I learned a lot from these experiences and think they will also help me in my first games in the ICEHL.”
