Bolzano poaching from the competition again

HC Bozen signed its next national player this Friday morning – and in the process significantly weakened a direct league rival.

As the Foxes have now confirmed, Giordano Finoro will wear the colors white and red in the future. The 26-year-old Italian-Canadian has terminated his contract with Asiago, which was actually valid until 2025, and is moving to Bolzano. Curiously, he is already the sixth player in the current HCB squad who previously earned his living with the rival from Veneto.

Giordano Finoro is a trained center who has recently been used as a right winger at Asiago and regularly formed a wing partnership with Michele Marchetti. A few days ago, this one also took the route from Asiago to Bolzano.

Reunion with Marchetti

The fast and technically skilled Finoro has so far only been under contract as a professional with the multiple Italian champions, who lured him from the Canadian university league to Europe in December 2021. There he hit the ground running and led Asiago to the championship title in the Alps Hockey League with the championship winning goal. In the following two ICE seasons, the striker from Ontario made 97 appearances, 44 goals and 39 assists.
“I want to be a key player offensively and defensively.” Giordano Finoro

Last season, Finoro scored points in an average of every other game, but at -29 he has the second worst plus-minus value in the entire league. He has made six appearances for Italy's national team so far, but was dropped from the squad shortly before the home World Cup in Bolzano. Now he has the opportunity to prove himself in the Sparkasse Arena in the HC Bolzano jersey.

"My goals are the same as those of the team; I want to be a key player both offensively and defensively to bring the cup to Bolzano," Finoro is quoted as saying by the club.
