HCB Südtirol Alperia ended last year with a win. The Foxes deservedly beat Villach 3:2 on Sunday (click here for the match report)The HCB therefore goes into the new year as the leader, level on points with Ferhervar, but has played 2 games less than the Hungarians.
Innsbruck, meanwhile, is experiencing a difficult season. With 9 wins (including 3 after regular time) and 24 defeats (including 3 in overtime or in the penalty shootout), the Sharks are in last place in the table with 27 points. On Sunday, the North Tyroleans suffered a 1:3 defeat in Salzburg.
It's no wonder that the HCB is the big favorite going into the game. It is the third direct duel between the two teams this season. On October 20, the Foxes won 4:2 in front of their home crowd. On November 15, however, extra time was needed in the TIWAG Arena to determine the winner: Brad McClure scored the decisive goal after a 0:0 score in the regular 60 minutes.
