The next new signing: HC Bozen is getting serious

HC Bozen is aiming high this year! The Foxes have signed two new players in just two days. The latest addition is already very familiar with the league.

On Tuesday, HC Bozen made the signing announced by defense attorney Matt Cairns. Twenty-four hours later, the next new signing arrives in Talferstadt: Matteo Gennaro will be playing forward for the Foxes. This marks the return of a familiar face to the ICE Hockey League.

The Italian-Canadian played for Asiago for the past two years, scoring 90 points (41 goals) in 89 games. Previously, the 28-year-old played in the American Hockey League, the KHL, in Slovakia, and in the Swedish second division. Gennaro also won the ECHL championship, the third-highest league in North America, in 2022.

He is part of the national team.

The versatile forward suffered an injury in the summer that sidelined him for several months. Now he's fit again and ready for a new adventure. Gennaro, who has been part of the Italian national team since last year, will land in Italy on Wednesday evening and return to the ice on Thursday.

He too will come to the state capital to broaden the squad in view of a demanding phase of the season and to prevent possible injuries – also with a view to the Olympic match calendar.

“I’m incredibly excited to return to Italy and especially to Bolzano,” said Gennaro, “and to be part of a great team and a well-established group aiming for the championship title. That’s a huge motivation for me. I’m sure I can help the team a lot: the league is extremely balanced this season and the standings are very tight. That makes everything even more exciting and will motivate me to give 110 percent.”
