HC Pustertal (in yellow) lost in Feldkirch.

HC Pustertal has to do an extra lap

Now it's clear: HC Pustertal missed direct qualification for the playoffs this year too.

With one match day to go it is clear that HC Pustertal will have to take the unpopular route through the pre-playoffs. The Wolves lost 3-4 against the Pioneers Vorarlberg in Feldkirch on Wednesday evening. This means that the HCP will finish the basic round in either 7th or 8th place and will have to qualify for the playoffs in the best-of-3 mode from Sunday.

However, the last game of the regular season on Friday is not entirely meaningless for the HCP. On paper, with a win against Red Bull Salzburg, the Black and Yellows would have a chance of still finishing 7th in the table. to become. This means that HC Pustertal could be the first to pick their opponent. In any case, the Pusterers will have a home game at the start of the pre-playoffs. The possible scenario at the moment seems to be a clash with Ljubljana.

Wednesday's performance at the Pioneers was a disappointing one for the HCP. With a win, Bruneck would have remained in the race for direct playoff qualification. Vorarlberg, on the other hand, played their last game in the regular season. For them it was practically nothing anymore, because 10th place in the table was already fixed. But HC Pustertal still didn't manage to win this game.

The Pusterers conceded two goals at the end of the second third, were shocked and trailed 1:3. At the beginning of the last period, the guests equalized the game again with a lightning-fast double pack. But just half a minute later, Vorarlberg took the lead again. That shouldn't actually happen when you've just made up a two-goal deficit. Nevertheless, it describes the HCP season well. The Wolves simply lack stability if you just think of the last derby against HC Bozen, when the Foxes turned around a 4-goal deficit.

Speaking of HCB: The Talferstädter team made their playoff qualification perfect with a clear win in Graz on Wednesday.

The highlights

Vorarlberg is against itRight from the start, Vorarlberg made it clear that they wanted to win the game. However, Pustertal takes the lead thanks to Frycklund's 14th goal of the season after an assist from Petan (15th assist in total). Just two minutes later, the home team responded with a blueliner from Kirichenko, who scored the deserved 1-1 before the third break.
Double shockThe strong Kirichenko puts Vorarlberg in front for the first time with a powerful shot towards the end of the middle third in the power play. Shortly afterwards, the home side's top scorer Owre scored to make it 3-1. In this phase, the HCP has to be really careful not to get lost. The Pioneers are pushing hard to make it 4-1 before the third siren. Pustertal is in shock.
InsaneRight at the beginning of the final third, Mantinger brings the HCP back into the game with his 8th goal of the season. The Kalterer stays cool alone in front of Madlener and scores to make it 2:3. In the 45th minute, Atwal also scored a remarkable goal into the corner of the cross to equalize. But just half a minute later, Owre puts Vorarlberg back in the lead – unbelievable.
