A chapter comes to an end: “Petey” hangs up his ice skates.

The name Alex Petan is likely familiar to every local ice hockey fan. For the Italian-Canadian, this marks the end of a chapter closely linked to South Tyrol.

Alex Petan has ended his career as a professional ice hockey player: The Canadian announced this on social media on Saturday. Petan is no stranger to South Tyrol: During his career, he played for teams including HC Bozen and HC Pustertal Falkensteiner.

Petan's first chapter in Europe began with HC Bozen. The forward joined the "Foxes" in 2017 and immediately played a key role in the biggest success of his career so far: In his first season, Bozen won the EBEL championship. Petan impressed with 47 points in the regular season and established himself as an important offensive player.

An important role also in HCP

In 2023, Petan returned to South Tyrol – this time to HC Pustertal. He played a key role in Bruneck and was one of the Wolves' most productive players during his two seasons there. In total, he amassed 65 points in 92 ICEHL games for HCP. After leaving Bruneck, he went on to play for Olimpija Ljubljana. Now, the forward, born in 1992, is ending his playing career.

"What a career! We wish you all the best for your life after ice hockey," wrote HC Bozen under Petan's post. "One chapter ends, another begins. We wish you and your family all the best for the future, Petey," the club added.
