Christmas is a celebration of family, reflection, love - and of course presents. The eyes of young and old have shone particularly brightly in recent days when the beautiful presents were taken out of their wrappings under the Christmas tree. But for HC Bozen, this didn't quite work out; the Foxes were in for a nasty surprise. Instead of three points, the red and white wrapping paper wrapped up a 0:3 defeat against Klagenfurter AC.
Last year's finalist did not think much of a gift-giving role on Boxing Day, but was a really unpleasant opponent who went about his work from the first minute with a lot of bite, aggressive forechecking and an astonishing coolness.
The latter attribute in particular was lacking on this evening in front of almost 3.700 fans (including a good 50 from Klagenfurt). The HCB fired 35 shots, but not a single one went in. This was also thanks to KAC goalie Sebastian Dahm, who made outstanding saves and was a rock in Bozen's four (far too harmless) power play situations. The result: Glen Hanlon's team failed to score for the first time this season.
The highlights
cold start | Less than five minutes have been played when the guests take the lead. In a chaotic scene in front of HCB goalie Harvey, the puck crosses the goal line - Jan Mursak was the last Klagenfurt player to score (5th). |
double bad luck | After a complicated first third, Bozen revved up the engine in the middle period and created numerous chances. Frigo and Mantenuto had the biggest: they hit the post twice in one move (33'). On the other side, Harvey made an outstanding save in a one-on-one with Klagenfurt star Petersen. |
Him again | That is bitter: Bozen runs into a counterattack when they are outnumbered, Klagenfurt takes advantage of this completely cold-bloodedly and Mursak scores again – 2-0 (38.). |
Decision | The HCB continues to attack in the final third, but Klagenfurt is extremely tough. Dahm parries everything at the back, and Clemens Unterweger seals the Foxes' defeat after a quick counterattack (54th). |
Now another first has become reality this season: Bozen has suffered two defeats in a row for the first time, as they were already unable to win anything in Vienna on Sunday. The chance to make amends comes in just two days: on Saturday, December 28th, the Foxes will be guests at Asiago from 19.45:XNUMX p.m. Perhaps Daniel Frank & Co. will give themselves a belated Christmas present with a derby win. Pustertal also suffered a defeat on Boxing Day.
