A top defender from Bolzano is drawn to the competition

HC Bozen will have to do without one of its key players: Simon Bourque and the Foxes are going their separate ways with immediate effect.

In the summer of 2024, Bourque returned from Norway to the ICE Hockey League, where he had previously played for Innsbruck. He quickly became a key player in Bolzano.

The 28-year-old defender with a strong offensive drive recorded 59 points in 32 league games for the South Tyroleans. He was often the pivotal point in the buildup, but his teammates repeatedly had to step in for him on defense. That's now over, as Bourque has left HC Bolzano. The club confirmed this on Tuesday morning.

Where does his path lead?

The Foxes would certainly have been interested in keeping the defender, but not at any price. He has attracted interest from various other clubs in recent months, including those in the ICE Hockey League. Bourque is reportedly in close contact with the Vienna Capitals, where his line partner Cole Hults recently also signed. One thing is certain: Simon Bourque has no worries about his sporting future away from Bolzano.
