Revealed: This will be Milan's new ice hockey temple

Milan is back on the ice hockey map! Today, the fashion capital unveiled plans for a new, multi-million-euro arena. This means Milan intends to compete against Bolzano and Pustertal in the ICE Hockey League this fall.

Milan is getting a new home for ice sports: The “Milan Ice Fiera Arena” project was officially presented on Tuesday at the Rho exhibition grounds, where the Expo world's fair once took place.

The temporary arena, with approximately 4.000 seats, is being built on an open area of the exhibition grounds, the same site where games of the Olympic ice hockey tournament were held, and is scheduled for completion in October. The arena will cover an area of 5.710 square meters, be supported by thick steel girders, and enclosed by a double-insulated tent roof. In addition to the ice rink, eight changing rooms, a warm-up area for athletes, and a state-of-the-art ventilation and dehumidification system will be constructed.

5 million euro interim solution

With an investment of approximately five million euros, a modern facility will be created that will offer space for ice hockey, para ice hockey, figure skating, and curling, as well as youth development programs and public skating sessions. The structure is initially designed for operation for about three years – until a permanent ice rink is built.

The Italian Ice Sports Federation sees the project as an important step for the future. President Andrea Gios, speaking at the presentation in Milan, described it as a "fundamental milestone for the development of ice sports in Italy" and emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure for both young and elite athletes.

The new club, based at the traditional venue where a total of 32 Italian championship titles have already been celebrated, is pushing for entry into the ICE Hockey League next season. A preliminary project was presented to league officials in Austria weeks ago. The stadium issue now appears to be resolved, and a concrete financial plan for league participation is expected by the end of April.
"Milan has a great passion for this sport" National goalkeeper Davide Fadani

This news is sure to delight not only fans of HC Bozen and HC Pustertal, who can look forward to a new league attraction. National goalkeeper Davide Fadani, who hails from Milan and currently plays for Kloten in Switzerland, also expressed his enthusiasm during the project presentation: "For someone like me, who started playing sports in this city, today's news means a great deal. Milan has a great passion and a strong culture for this sport – I'm certain that a significant future lies ahead."
