Glira's shot at happiness: Pustertal dreams of the playoffs

HC Pustertal is aiming for the quarter-finals in the ICE Hockey League! On Sunday, the Wolves won their first game of the pre-playoffs away against Olimpija Ljubljana. A true Puschtra Bui emerged as the match winner.

The season of HC Pustertal has been a rollercoaster of emotions, with ups and downs so often. But now, of all times, in the pre-playoffs, of all times, in the most important time of the year, the Wolves are right there! On Sunday evening, in game 1 of the best-of-3 series, they won 2-1 after extra time away at Olimpija Ljubljana. Pustertal can therefore play on Tuesday (from 19.45 p.m./SportNews-Liveticker) in a surely sold-out Intercable Arena to make it into the quarter-finals.

Daniel Glira was the man of the evening on Sunday! The genuine Pustertal defender is playing his best season with the HCP this year and redeemed the Wolves against Ljubljana in overtime with a shot from the blue line that went in behind the otherwise strong Lukas Horak. The Pustertal players' jubilation knew no bounds, and the 15 or so Wolves fans who had traveled with them were also over the moon.

First victory in two and a half years

The omens - at least as far as the statistics are concerned - were completely against Pustertal on Sunday. The Wolves lost all four regular season games against Ljubljana. The last victory in the Hala Tivoli was on October 23, 2022, two and a half years ago. But after an early deficit by Rok Kapel, the Wolves responded with a lot of fighting spirit and an outstanding goalie Eddie Pasquale, who showed all his class and routine. Alex Petan deservedly equalized in the final third, then Glira scored the lucky goal.

The highlights

Right behindPustertal starts the match with energy, but quickly falls behind. Former NHL star Nick Bonino has an eye for Rok Kapel, who is completely forgotten by the Wolves' defense in the slot and calmly scores the 1-0 goal (3rd).
Curious CompensationPustertal runs forward and rewards itself at the beginning of the final third. Viktor Svedberg shoots from the blue line, the shot goes past the goal, but bounces off the boards and back into the field, where Alex Petan reacts quickly! 1:1 (45th). It is the first goal for the Italian-Canadian since January 12th.
Gliras HutDaniel Glira is not known for scoring goals, but now he scores what is probably the most important goal of his life. In overtime, the Toblacher is served by Raphi Andergassen, shoots from the blue line and scores.

The series now moves to the Pustertal, where Game 19.45 is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:28 p.m. If the Wolves win, they will be in the quarterfinals. If they lose, the series will be decided on Friday, February XNUMX in Ljubljana.
