To Bayern: Jon Blum moves to traditional club

His departure from HC Pustertal has been certain for weeks, and now Jonathon Blum has found a new club.

There was much speculation surrounding Jonathon Blum after last season. Would the 37-year-old defenseman end his career? Or would he continue? The only certainty was that he did not receive a new contract with HC Pustertal. While Blum didn't have a bad season, he failed to fully live up to the high expectations.

The future of the 122-time NHL player is now clear. He will be lacing up his skates for EV Landshut in the DEL2 next season. Blum is thus joining one of Germany's most storied clubs, a team shaped by players like Erich Kühnhackl (Germany's Ice Hockey Player of the Century), his son Tom Kühnhackl (two-time NHL champion), and Marco Sturm (more than 1.000 NHL games). Last season, Landshut's coach was none other than ice hockey legend Uwe Krupp.

For Landshut, this is a coup.

“We’ve been in contact with Jon for quite some time, and we’re extremely pleased that he chose EVL despite several other offers,” emphasizes Sporting Director Max Brandl. He adds: “Signing Jonathon Blum represents a significant upgrade for all aspects of our defensive game. Jon possesses a high level of core defensive skills, contributes to the offense, and is a real weapon as a quarterback on the power play. Furthermore, he’s a key leader – a true leader who always leads by example on the ice and in the locker room. All of this will be a huge benefit to our team!”
