Turbulence in Villach: Is ICE train participation in jeopardy?

There is great unrest at EC VSV shortly before the start of the new ICE Hockey League season, which begins next Friday.

Managing Director Martin Winkler announced his resignation on Thursday, effective immediately. The news has caused a stir in Villach, especially since VSV is already in the midst of preparations for the upcoming season, both on and off the field.

Initially, it was unclear what impact the resignation might have on the future of the traditional club. Reports of potential difficulties had even raised questions about VSV's participation in the upcoming championship. However, the league has now issued an important clarification: As things stand, VSV fulfills all the necessary requirements for participation in the upcoming season.

Support from the league

ICE also emphasized the importance of VSV for Austrian ice hockey. The club is considered one of the founding clubs of the league and occupies a key position within Austrian ice hockey. The board therefore decided to offer the VSV board the greatest possible support in logistical and organizational matters.

For VSV, the priority now is to quickly restore stability. The league management intends to remain in close contact with those in charge in Villach and support the club within its means in managing the current situation. Despite Winkler's surprising resignation, at least one thing is clear: VSV currently meets the requirements for the start of the season – the coming days will show how the club copes with the turmoil.
