Two convincing victories within three days: HC Bozen had a blast this weekend in the ICE Hockey League. 6-0 triumph on Friday in Vorarlberg still somewhat deceptive, The Foxes showed off their full potential on Sunday at the Heidi Horten Arena – and it seems to be enormous. Bolzano swept runner-up Klagenfurt off the ice with a 5-1 victory. HC Pustertal also celebrated a victory on Sunday.
Extremely well-structured and cool-headed at the back, straightforward, straightforward, and above all, mercilessly effective at the front: That was Bolzano's secret to success in front of the nearly 4.000 fans, two dozen of whom traveled from South Tyrol. For 60 minutes, KAC found no antidote to this venomous, passionate, and disciplined HCB. Speaking of discipline: There wasn't a single penalty in the entire match. With this decisive victory over the runners-up, the Foxes made it clear for the first time this season why they are considered one of the hottest title contenders.

Picking out anyone from this strong team on Sunday is difficult. However, two players deserve special praise: Goalie Sam Harvey, after his shaky opening performance against Salzburg, responded with a truly strong performance. The Canadian goalie deserved a shutout, but Matt Fraser spoiled it for him shortly before the final whistle. Mark Barberio – who shared the line with Scott Valentine this time – shone not only as a tough defenseman but also with two exemplary assists. The former NHL star is currently Bolzano's top scorer with six points.
The highlights
| Goal-scoring instinct | Eight minutes have been played when Frigo sneaks away from his markers, is perfectly played in by Mantenuto and coolly converts the cross pass to make it 1-0. |
| McClure… | ...writes! In the middle third, he receives a fine pass from Barberio and beats Dahm to make it 2-0. It's McClure's first goal of the season. |
| Wild ending | In the final period, Bozen increased the score: Gersich danced around goalie Dahm after a fine pass from Gazley (43rd minute), then Pollock scored after a strong assist from Schneider to make it 4-0 (47th minute), before Fraser spoiled Harvey's shutout (57th minute). DiGiacinto finished the game with an empty-net goal (57th minute). |
After the two victories, the HCB will now have a few days' break before continuing with a home doubleheader next weekend. League newcomer Ferencvaros visits the Sparkasse Arena on Friday (19:45 p.m.), and Black Wings Linz on Sunday (18 p.m.).
