HC Pustertal won their fourth consecutive game against Vorarlberg this season. The Wolves secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory in Vorarlberg on Wednesday, keeping them in contention for fifth place – and potentially a better starting position for the playoffs.
With a home win on Friday evening against Olimpija Ljubljana, who had also defeated HCB Südtirol Alperia in a penalty shootout on Wednesday, HC Pustertal would overtake the Slovenians and finish the regular season in fifth place. Unlike the Black and Yellows, Ljubljana's season ends in just two days at the Intercable Arena.
HC Pustertal won in Vorarlberg, without really impressing.
In fourth place, and with the associated home-ice advantage in the playoffs, the Wolves' chance is only theoretical. "The three points were important. Vorarlberg didn't make it easy for us. We'll need even more focus in the playoffs," Pustertal's Daniel Glira succinctly summarized after the victory in Feldkirch. HCP celebrated a hard-fought win against the second-to-last team in the standings, but it wasn't a convincing one.
The highlights
| Vorarlberg effectively | The shot count in the first period was 13-6 in favor of HCP, but Vorarlberg was leading 2-1. Both goals were scored by homegrown talent Erne. For the second goal, Maier delivered a perfect pass to the 22-year-old at the far post. Saracino then tied the game on a rebound after a shot by Almquist. |
| Puster Valley's double blow | Within just one minute, Pustertal turned the game around and took a 3-2 lead. At 2-2, Ticar fell into the goalie – and the puck slipped over the line. After a lengthy video review, the goal was awarded. Di Tomaso then fired a shot after a cross-ice pass from JC Lipon and scored. But midway through the second period, Vorarlberg tied the game again. |
| Frycklund's winning goal | After another turnover by Vorarlberg in their own zone, Frycklund remained ice-cold and scored to make it 4-3 in the final period. After that, the game was over. |
After Friday's placement match against Ljubljana, HC Pustertal's final regular season game is against Villacher SV on Sunday. Afterwards, the fifth season begins.
