The Vienna Capitals and Villacher SV have opened the door wide to the playoffs. While the Capitals celebrated a resounding 5-1 victory against Fehervar AV19 in their opening pre-playoff game, Villach secured their first win with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Black Wings Linz.
The pre-playoffs will be held as a best-of-three series. This means that both Vienna and Villach can secure their playoff spot with a win on the second matchday on Friday. If they fail to do so, the decisive match will take place on Sunday.
Once the last two tickets have been awarded, the playoff pick will be made. Then HC Bozen and HC Pustertal will also know who they will face in the quarterfinals. A duel between the two South Tyrolean ice hockey giants is even possible this year.
