Kaltern wins the Überetsch derby

Thursday in the Italian Hockey League (IHL) was all about South Tyrolean derbies and clashes. While SV Kaltern convincingly defeated their arch-rivals from Eppan on the road, the Falcons Brixen prevailed against HC 3 Zinnen Dolomites.

SV Kaltern and the Pirates from Eppan met for the third time this season. After Eppan secured victory in the first game and Kaltern subsequently avenged that loss, the two teams entered the match with an even record. Ultimately, the Pirates celebrated a 5-1 away win.

The first goal of the evening went to the visitors: In the 27th minute, Florian Wieser put the Italian Cup winners ahead 1-0. Martin Graf equalized in the 32nd minute, but the Pike struck back in the 37th minute through Joonas Alanne. In the final period, Moritz Selva effectively sealed the victory with a power-play goal. Saha (53rd minute) and Alanne (55th minute) then extended the lead, securing the three points.

The Falcons show a lot of heart

The spectators in Toblach witnessed a much more exciting battle. In a close game, the Polar Bears lost 3-4 in overtime against the Brixen Falcons. Elias Fauster scored the first goal of the evening in the 12th minute. Paul Mantinger equalized for the visitors 90 seconds before the first intermission. However, the joy was short-lived, as the home team struck back just 45 seconds later, with Andrea De Luca putting them back in the lead. The second period began with a lot of momentum.

Just three minutes in, Gabriel Vinatzer equalized for the Falcons. But once again, the Icebears remained undeterred and took the lead thanks to Patrick Rizzo (27th minute). After these intense minutes, the spectators had to wait a long time before the next goal of the evening. Dominik Obexer scored the equalizer for the Brixen team with 30 seconds remaining. Grant Docter then secured the extra point for the Eisacktal team, netting the winning goal to make it 4-3 in the 62nd minute.
