First final match: HCP Junior wins after almost 4 hours

HC Pustertal Junior can dream of the IHL Division I title more than ever. The Wolves kicked off the final series with a memorable victory on Saturday.

Last season, HCP Junior suffered a dramatic final defeat against HC Chiavenna. Now, the young Wolves are seeking revenge in the IHL Division I final rematch. Game 1 of the best-of-five series took place in Chiavenna on Saturday – and the Black and Yellows won 5-4 in overtime.

Peter Wieser delivered the decisive blow in the second overtime period: Playing with a man advantage, the Puster native scored in the 84th minute to make it 5-4 and secure the first victory of the series for his Wolves. By that point, the game had already been underway for almost four hours: The puck drop occurred at 8:15 p.m., and the game-winning goal came shortly before midnight.

The series now moves to Bruneck – with two home games for HCP. Game 2 takes place on Thursday at the Intercable Arena, followed by Game 3 on Saturday. The goal is clear: to win the title.
