Final: SV Kaltern can continue to dream big

In the fourth game of the quarter-final series between Pergine and SV Kaltern, the Pike could have secured their place in the final – as did the previous year's champion.

SV Kaltern has once again reached the Italian Hockey League (IHL) final. The Pike celebrated a 4-0 victory against Pergine on Saturday, winning the best-of-five series 3-1. In the final, they will face a tough opponent in HC Aosta, just as they did last season. However, the Pike are eager to defend their title and also have home-ice advantage in the final series.

After a 2-4 opening defeat in their first game against Pergine, the Hechte (Pikes) recovered in the following two matches and earned two match points at home on Thursday. The team from Überetsch capitalized on their first opportunity and deservedly advanced to the final. Just as on Thursday, Kaltern took the lead again on Saturday, with Matteo Cappuccio converting a pass from Daniel Erlacher (16th minute). In the second period, another five-on-five play resulted in Kaltern going up 2-0, this time with Florian Wieser scoring the goal (30th minute).

Now the final beckons!

In the final period, Mikael Saha quickly scored the decisive 3-0 (43rd minute), before Jonas Schmid sealed the 4-0 victory with a goal into the empty Pergine net (57th minute). The Hechte's place in the final was then assured, and the celebrations were accordingly exuberant.

In the final, SV Kaltern – as mentioned earlier – will face HC Aosta. The two teams already met last year, when the Pike won the series 4-2 and were crowned IHL champions. The Pike aim to repeat this feat this year – game one will take place next Saturday, March 28th, at the Raiffeisen Arena.
