Italian Cup: Kaltern fails again in the final

The grand finale of the Italian Cup took place on Sunday at the Final Four in Varese. Pergine prevailed against Kaltern.

So far, SV Kaltern has won the Italian Cup once. The Kalterer team beat Meran 2018-2019 in the 5/1 season. However, since this success, the Hechte have lost out in the final twice. Last season, the Überetscher failed in the final 3-1 to Varese and this year coach Kai Suikkanen's team also lost in the final. At the Acinque Ice Arena, Pergine won 4-1.

In front of 754 spectators, Pergine started like a fire department right from the start and decided the match in the first third. After just five minutes the bell rang in the pike box for the first time. Joshua Berger gave Pergine the lead. Just a few minutes later, Christian Buono made it 2-0 on the power play. As a result, Kaltern pushed forward and Bastian Andergassen scored the goal shortly before the end of the third. However, the Pike's hopes were short-lived. Just a minute later, Andrea Meneghini restored the old 2-goal lead.

Rigoni is insurmountable

After no goals were scored in the second half, William Lemay put the finishing touches a few minutes before the end of the game. The 25-year-old scored into the empty goal after Kaltern had previously risked everything and made room for goalkeeper Alex Andergassen for an additional field player. Throughout the entire game, the people of Kaltern cut their teeth on the outstanding Rudy Rigoni. The goalie became the match winner with an impressive catch rate of 97,06 percent.
