In front of 14.200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Berlin's Ostbahnhof station, the home team dominated the game from the start. Pföderl took the lead in the seventh minute, when Berlin went on the power play for the first time. The fact that they immediately received a penalty themselves didn't stop the capital city team: Pföderl scored his second goal while shorthanded (10th minute).
After the first intermission, Berlin's dominance remained unchanged. Ronning increased the lead to 3-0 (22nd minute), before Pföderl completed his hat trick with another power play goal (29th minute). Cologne, who at times seemed overwhelmed after their grueling overtime victory on Saturday, subsequently pulled their goalie Július Hudácek from the ice. His replacement, Tobias Ancicka, was defeated after just 16 seconds. Veilleux scored the defending champions' fifth goal (30th minute).
Pföderl scores three times
The capital city team was also able to rely on their strong power play in the final period. Bergmann (42nd minute) and Tiffels (57th minute) increased the score to 7-0 with two more power-play goals. Goalie Jake Hildebrand also celebrated his second shutout of the current playoffs after a strong performance. The fourth game of the series will take place on Wednesday evening in Cologne (19.30 p.m.).
