From the German upper house to the German upper league

The two strikers know each other from their time together in Ingolstadt. “When my contract in Nuremberg was no longer extended, I immediately contacted Thomas. We quickly agreed to work together and found a solution that was good for both parties,” beams Ramoser. “I still have a long way to go.” Joachim Ramoser Greilinger remembers: “It was also my way back then to make the move to Deggendorf after a serious injury in order to benefit from an extensive rehabilitation program here.” That was 16 years ago, when the now 39-year-old former German national player After a serious knee injury, he did advanced training in his hometown and fought his way back onto the ice. Greilinger missed the entire 2005/06 season before lacing up his skates for ERC Ingolstadt in the DEL for 11 years. The winger has been hunting for goals again for his hometown club since 2019.

Deggendorf as a rehabilitation mecca Ramoser will complete his rehabilitation at the “Frank and Strauss Therapy Center”. For Deggendorf's board member Artur Frank, the path chosen for the South Tyrolean with a German passport is absolutely suitable: “We have a lot of experience here in the follow-up treatment of such injuries in top athletes. It is important that there is no time pressure and that the player can complete his rehabilitation measures in peace before thinking about playing in the major league.”

But it's not just the player who benefits from this agreement. “As a club we have no risk. Joachim will be a full member of the team from now on, but his contract will only begin once he has fully recovered. From this point on we will have a player who could give us another boost in the crucial phase of the season,” said Greilinger after signing the contract with his former teammate in Ingolstadt.

Ramoser has already moved to Deggendorf. “I cleared out the apartment in Nuremberg and brought all my things to Deggendorf, where I have my own apartment. “I haven’t seen much of the ice hockey-loving small town, but the first impression was excellent,” assures the lively attacker. In the town of 35.000 people in Lower Bavaria, around 400 kilometers from his hometown of Oberbozen, he can now focus exclusively on his health. “I was very well received in Deggendorf and know that I am in good hands. If everything goes according to plan, I might be able to get back into gaming operations at the beginning of 2022. But I’m not stressing myself out.”

In Lower Bavaria, Ramoser meets another South Tyrolean, Alex Großrubatscher. The 20-year-old defender from Val Gardena moved to Germany in the summer of 2015 and spent five years in the youth department at EV Regensburg from the U5 to the U16. In the 20/2019 season, the former U20 international moved from Italy to Deggendorfer SC, where he recently extended his contract. The talented defensive player played 20 games in the German top league and collected 59 points (20 goals).
