The South Tyrolean from HC Ambri-Piotta (NLA in Switzerland) suffered a broken right thumb without any external contact during the clear 11:0 defeat against Finland and will probably be out for the rest of the tournament.

A more thorough examination after the match quickly confirmed the diagnosis: Kostner's right thumb is broken and requires surgery, ruling him out of the remaining Olympic Games. For the Azzurri, this represents not only a significant sporting loss but also an emotional one – Kostner has been a key player for years and is considered a top performer for the Blue Team.
