Comeback victory: Italy's U18s maintain their chances of promotion

Italy's U18 women's national team can continue to dream of promotion at the Division IA World Championship in Neumarkt. On Wednesday, the Azzurre put Denmark in their place.

Italy dominated the game against the Danes from the start. After two power play goals, Massimo Fedrizzi's team was behind 0-2. A furious final third gave Italy a 4-2 win. With a win against the previously unbeaten Japanese, Italy can celebrate promotion on Friday.

Denmark, which had not scored a single point during the tournament, proved to be a tricky opponent on Wednesday, striking ice-cold in the power play. 58 seconds after the start of the middle third, it was Olivia Ranum who opened the scoring. Then Laura Lobis and Matilde Fantin had to take a seat in the penalty box almost at the same time. Denmark took advantage of the double majority and even tasted the sensation after Nikita Bergmann's goal to make it 2-0.

Great comeback

Italy didn't put up with that and in the final period, with a double strike from Alessandra Weber and Manuela Heidenberger, they set everything back to zero within 34 seconds. The fans then had to tremble for a long time: Giorgia Todesco only scored the winning goal for the Azzurre in the 56th minute. With an empty-net goal, Chiara Carioti made the final score 53-4 2 seconds before the end.
