The ice hockey motherland starts with victory

On the second day of the A World Championship in the Czech Republic, the Canadians scored directly in their first game. In the other game there was an underdog victory.

Canada started this year's Ice Hockey World Championships in the Czech Republic - albeit with some teething problems. In the capital Prague, the North Americans won their opening game against Great Britain 4-2. But head coach André Tourigny's men didn't play confidently, at least not throughout the game.

The British were initially denied a goal, but a little later they took the lead through Liam Kirk (8th). Just 30 seconds later, the Canadians equalized through Michael Bunting (9th), before Brandon Hagel (26th) and youngster Connor Bedard set the course for victory with two goals (32nd and 36th) in the second period. Ben O'Connor only made cosmetic results in the final third (49').

Kazakhstan shocks France

However, there was a big surprise in the parallel game in Ostrava. There, Kazakhstan somewhat surprisingly defeated the French 3-1. The Europeans are not considered favorites for the title, but they still have the better players. Enzo Cantagallo gave the French an early lead (3rd), but the Kazakhs turned the game on its head in the starting third: Roman Starchenko (4th) and Maxim Mukhametov (8th) scored the goals. Kirill Savitsky made the final score 3-1 in the second third (38th). In the last 20 minutes, Kazakhstan managed the game and no more goals were scored.
