Ice hockey superstar Crosby is coming to the World Championship

Surprise! NHL legend Sidney Crosby will strengthen record world champion Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland.

The 38-year-old veteran from the Pittsburgh Penguins is hoping for at least a World Championship gold medal after the loss to the USA (1-2) in the Olympic final. Top favorite Canada starts its tournament on Friday (4:20 p.m.) in Fribourg with a game against Sweden.

For Crosby, whose Pittsburgh Penguins were eliminated early from the NHL playoffs, this will be his fourth World Championship tournament, following appearances in 2006, 2015, and 2025. He only managed to win the title in 2015. Last year, Crosby and his teammates were surprisingly defeated in the quarterfinals by underdog Denmark. The forward missed the Olympic final in Milan due to injury.
